U.S. Southeast opens with hot bats
Duguot
U.S. Southeast 13, Canada 4
The players from Fraser Valley, British Columbia, probably are not very fond of the mid-day South Carolina heat. But Saturday in Game One of the Big League World Series, the Canadians were burned by the hot bats of the U.S. Southeast team, which scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to turn a close game into a 13-4 blowout.
Canada took the lead in the first inning by scoring two runs. But U.S. Southeast, from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., scored four runs in the top of the third to gain control of the game. Florida improved its lead to 6-2 with two more runs in the top of the fourth, but Canada answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of that inning.
Florida improved its lead to 7-4 with a run in the sixth, then reeled of six more in the seventh put the game out of reach.
Mike Liddell scored four of Florida's runs and hit two doubles. Chad Rose and Cory Hayes each hit a double for Florida.
Four of Canada's six hits were doubles. Dan Pawson, Rob Brett, Greg Argent and Jóno Voros each hit a double. |
