Puerto Rico tops Guam 9-1

Puerto Rico pounded 9 runs off 14 hits to defeated Guam 9-1 Monday afternoon.
The win improved Puerto Rico's record to 2-1 in the BLWS and kept hopes alive for a spot in Friday's pool championship series.
Puerto Rico opened the game a single by Fernando Garcia, who stole second and third base before being driven home by a single by Daniel Ortiz. Jimmy Revas then hit a home run to give Puerto Rico a 3-0 lead.
Puerto Rico added to its lead in the third inning when Axel Gonzalas hit a two-run homer.
In the fourth inning, Carlos Davila opened with a double and was later driven home on a sacrifice fly by Fredando Garcia.
Axel Gonzalez hit a triple in the fifth and came home off a 2-run homer by Daniel Ortiz.
In the sixth, Puerto Rico added its final run when Francisco Cintron hit a single, moved to second on Fernando Garcia's single, stole third, then came come on a fielder's choice play.
Asia's only run came in the bottom of the seventh when Michael Bautista hit a double to open the inning, then stole third base. He came home on Matthew Barcinas' single. |
