The U.S. East team, from Dover, Del., used a steady pounding of the Guam pitchers to earn a 14-3 victory over Asia/Pacific in Saturday afternoon in the Big League World Series.
Guam took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Alejandro Diaz knocked in two runs with a double.
But Delaware came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning, powered by singles from Mike Sturgis, Kyle McGuire, Bryan Esslinger and Andrew Esslinger.
In the second inning, Delaware added two more runs, with Jake Emerson and Kyle McGuire hitting singles in the inning.
In the bottom of the third, Jason Wyatt hit a home run to help lead Delaware in a four-run inning, giving the U.S. East team a 11-2 lead. Guam scored one run in the top of the fourth, but three runs by Delaware in the bottom of the inning gave the U.S. East a 14-3 lead. Guam was unable to score in the top of the fifth, so the game ended with the 10-run rule in effect. |
