District One concludes pool play undefeated
Dugout
With two extra inning victories and a close win over EMEA, S.C. District One had already clinched the Pool B top spot for the pool championship series Friday night.
So with nothing more to prove, the team relaxed a bit and the results were phenomenal as the host team defeated U.S. Central 10-0 in five innings.
Winning pitcher Andrew Guest gave up a hit in the first inning, then retired the remaining batters in order through the fourth inning. Relief pitcher Matt Ramey did the same in the top of the fifth.
District One will face Puerto Rico in Friday's nightcap. S.C. District One's winning streak in the BLWS is now up to 8.
The host team was not able to score in the first two innings as Central Pitcher Ricky Dondridge struck out foru batters. S.C. District One finally got on the scoreboard in the third inning when Cory Tysl singled, then J.D. Burgess brought him home with a double. Burgess scored later on a single by Mills Rogers.
S.C. District One took control of the game in the fourth inning by scoring six runs.
Chas Anthony doubled, then was driven home on Matt Youngblood's single. Justin Weaver, Andy Folwer and J.D. Burgess all singled to continue District One's roll.
In the fifth inning, Chas Anthony and Matt Youngblood singled, then the runners were advanced on a called balk. Justin Weaver knocked in one run with a infield single, then Andy Fowler drove in another run with an infield grounder. That run provided the 10-run cushion needed to end the game in five innings.
The host team was idle Thursday night. U.S. Central was set to try one more time for a win in a game against the U.S. Southwest. |
