Guam tops Canada for first win

In a battle of winless teams, Guam scored 8 runs early and held on to take a 8-5 victory of Canada Wednesday afternoon.
Guam took early control, scoring four runs in the first inning off Aaron Sanchez's grand slam home run.
Canada also got on the scoreboard in the first inning. Danile Paulson hit a double then moved to third base on an ground out by Greg Argent. Rob Brett hit a single to drive Paulson in for a run.
Guam increased its lead in the second inning when Derwin Agnon singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs.
Canada's Daniel Paulson had a solo home run in the bottom of the second to make the score Guam 6, Canada 2.
In the third inning Guam finished its scoring for the night with two more runs. Jarred Alerta doubled and Mike Cruz reached on an error. Both came home when Derwin Argon also reached base on an error.
In the bottom of the third, Jono Voros singled, then moved to third base on John Lambert's double. Mac Michaelski singled to drive Voros home for Canada's third run.
In the fifth inning, Canada's Miller Morache was hit by a pitch and moved to second base when Jono Voros drew a walk. Morache came home when John Lambert reached base on an error.
Canada's final run came in the seventh inning with a solo homer by John Lambert.
Guam, representing Asia-Pacific for the fourth straight year, finishes the Big League World Series with a 1-4 record. Canada, 0-4, was set to complete its BLWS play Thursday against the U.S. East team from Delaware. Results of that game were not available at press time. |
